Askill is a rural area which is set in the North of Leitrim on the shores of Lough Melvin and bordering County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland.
Lough Melvin is a famous salmon fishing lake. It is known for having unique species of trout the Sonaghan and the Gillaroo as well as diverse floral and fauna. There are nine islands to explore on Lough Melvin of which some contain ancient ruins.
A famine road can be seen near Askill. It starts at the Fermanagh border and carries on for half a mile. These roads were built during the famine times to provide labour for the starving people allowing them to buy food with the money they received.
