History:
The Mass Rock in Carntulla, situated 4 miles in the hills north east of the village, holds not only a spectacular view but also holds a very important part of our history. During penal times Catholics gathered here to celebrate mass, when such activity was banned. There are many sweathouses in the area. Sweathouses were an old remedy for rheumatism, sciatica and general aches and pains. There is a good example of a sweathouse in very good condition off the Leitrim Way near Ballinaglera. Also the scenery and seclusion make this a good place to stop.
