  • Friday, 11 March 2016 10:46

Seán MacDiarmada homestead open to public Thursday to Saturday from March 2016.

The Seán MacDiarmada house in Corranmore on the outskirts of Kiltyclogher will re-open its doors to the public this week.  The cottage was the family home of 1916 Proclamation Signatory Seán MacDiarmada who also planned and fought in the Easter Rising.

The homestead is a National Monument in the ownership of the state and has been maintained and conserved by the Office of Public Works in its original condition by them since 1964.  The OPW has just completed some important conservation work on the building which is now ready for visitors.  Under the Friends of Irish Heritage initiative they have given permission for Kiltyclogher Heritage Centre, a local community based Interpretive Centre, to provide guided tours to the house.

The house is available for tours from Thursday to Saturday 10am - 4pm Admission to Kiltyclogher Hertiage Centre and tours to the MacDiarmada house are free.  Tours numbers are restricted to groups of 10, prior booking is recommended.  The last tour is 3pm.  Please note that visitors must provide their own transportation to the house and that the house is not wheelchair accessible.  For further information please contact Paul on 071 985 4865 or at the following email address.
